“I danced in my room to the song, “Girl put your records on.” I danced for the girl who never danced alone. And for the ones who feel they are dancing alone. Even in full room.
As a kid, I was always afraid. Always shied away from the spotlight and stage. But not today. Today I decided to be brave. Today I would not care what the air said. Nor what the mirror saw. I would not think how silly it would seem for me to dance alone. To follow my own steps to joy.
So, I turned up the song. And danced. And danced. And danced along with JOY.”

Have you ever stopped and asked yourself, how do I find joy? Your steps to happiness and joy may be different from mine, but I believe that everyone has the potential to enter this state of happiness. Whether these steps are one or two away, or fifty, I believe you can reach it – if you try.
If you were to ask me in my 20s how do I find joy, I would have been clueless. I was far from joyful and did not know how I would ever find joy. In fact, because I was depressed, I thought I had to wait for happiness and joy to find me.
My steps to happiness began with one step forward. Then another. Many steps later, I got to a place where I was finally able to leap into it. But it did not happen overnight. It took getting up every day and making choices that would eventually lead me to a state of happiness.
Many things cause us to be unhappy or discontent. Whether that be fear, loneliness, or some external factors, there are numerous reasons to be unhappy. But I have found that you can make choices that lead to happiness. But it begins with a choice.
So, when you find your happiness and joy, don’t forget to turn up the music and revel in your moment. It’s taken you many steps to get here.
How are you finding your happiness today? Or what steps do you think it will take to get you there? Let me know in the comments!
